Hugo Boss founded his eponymous fashion company in 1924 in Metzingen, Germany. The company started out producing, jackets, work clothes, sportswear, shirts, and raincoats. An early bankruptcy in 1931 left the company with just six sewing machines, but it was able to bounce back and revitalize itself. The company’s introduction to the world of fragrances occurred in 1985, the same year the business was taken public. Fragrances for men and women are offered under both the Boss and Hugo brands. The first fragrance was Boss Number One for men, launched in 1985.
